House finishes 5th, earns spot at Nationals

POWELL, Ohio -- With a 5th place finish, senior Rachel House has qualified for the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships. This is House's second time qualifying for the national meet, as she qualified as a freshman.

Both House and Austin Neura earned All-Region honors.

House paced the women's side, running a 22:29.2 in the 6K race. Miranda Shaffer followed with a 24:43.6. Amanda Elkins (25:13.7), Alexandra Chakov (25:55.7), and Jessica Sucheck (26:25.7) rounded out the top five for the Berg.

The Heidelberg women placed 20th out of 35 teams.

On the men's side, Neura led the way taking home 21st. The junior ran a team-best 26:07.8 in the 8K race. Dom Frey was next for the Berg, running a 27:28.4, followed closely by Jacob Ferrebee (27:33.8).

Senior Isaac Kuntz clocked in a 27:51.2. Kyle Manuel ran a 28:29.7 while Eric Peterson finished right behind him at 28:30.6. The men's team took 18th out of 36 competing teams.

"We had a few really great performances today," said head coach Brian Grime. "Rachel raced very smart, got out in front, and stayed there the whole race."

Grime on House: "Rachel has worked incredibly hard to get to this point … We have more work to do in a week."

House advances to the DIII National Meet, held next weekend in Elsah, Illinois.
