TIFFIN -- Third-year head coach, Brian Grime will be hoping to lead both the women's and men's cross country teams into contention for the OAC Championships in 2018.
Leading the way for the Student Princes this year will be senior, Rachel House, who looks to return to the National Championship meet, where she placed 82nd out of 279 runners in 2017. Also, controlling the pace for the women's team will be seniors Alexandra Chakov, Amanda Elkins, Taylor Rodriguez, and Jessica Sucheck and sophomores Sydney McCoy and Ashlee Beaver.
Looking to set the tone for the men's team will be senior Austin Neura, who finished third overall at the 2017 OAC Championships. Also, hoping to contribute to the success in 2018 will be seniors Justin Mourguet, Kyle Nash, and Eric Peterson, juniors Tim Jasper, Andrew Symonds, Dakota Freeman, and Garrett Shearer, and sophomores Logan Kittaka, Aedan Lang, Dylan Wiechart, Justin See, Alec Waterston, and Jakob Hogrefe.
THE SCHEDULE: The seven meet schedule will look to challenge Heidelberg throughout the region. The teams start their season at the Pre-Regional Meet in Shelbyville, Indiana on September 1. Along with Tiffin University, Berg will co-host the Tiffleberg Open at Clinton Heights Golf Course on September 15. After rounding out September at the All-Ohio Championships, the Student Princes will compete at the Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble and OAC Championships in the month of October. Finishing up the season, the teams look to claim a birth into the 2018 National Championships at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet.
IN THE POLLS: The women's team was selected to finish seventh in the OAC coaches poll with 35 points. Defending champion, Otterbein was selected to finish first with 80 points and eight first place votes. Both Baldwin Wallace and John Carroll received one first place vote a piece.
On the men's side, the Student Princes were picked to finish sixth with 41 points. John Carroll was narrowly picked to finish first with 72 points and four first-place votes. Ohio Northern received three first-place votes, Otterbein received two first-place votes and Mount Union received one first-place vote.
ROSTER BREAKDOWN: Grime will look to compete this fall with 23 men and 9 female. By class -- four seniors, seven sophomores, four juniors and eight freshmen for the men and five seniors, two sophomores, and seven freshmen for the women. By country/hometown -- the men will field 22 Ohioans and one athlete from Michigan, while the women will feature one runner from New Jersey and 13 from Ohio.
