AKRON -- On a picturesque day in the Rubber City, the Heidelberg University men's and women's cross country teams ran at the All-Ohio Championships. The men ran to an eighth-place finish among Division III competition. The women's team was 15th among Division III foes.
"The men's side ran very tough today," said Head Coach Brian Grime. "We beat a regionally-ranked team and took a big step forward. We are confident and excited for the second half of the season."
In the 8K, Austin Neura was 46th overall and 13th in Division III. He clocked a 25:25.3 to lead The Berg.
With a time of 26:09.4, David Drushal 36th in D3, 98th overall.
On the women's side, injuries and illness wreaked havoc on Grime's group.
"We weren't at full strength but it was still a good showing for those that were healthy," said Grime. "We are hoping to be at full strength in two weeks."
Freshman Brittney Roth was first across the line for HU in the women's 6K. Placing 115th overall, Roth was 37th in the D3 race with a time of 23:58.4. Next, Amanda Elkins, 157th overall, was 61st with a 24:40.1.
Much like the mens' side, the final three scorers crossed the line in a cluster. Alexandra Chakov (223rd, 94th) had a 25:59.0, Taylor Rodriguez (230th, 96th) ran a 26:15.7 and Jessica Sucheck (246th, 102nd) clocked a 26:54.5.
The Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble awaits both squads on October 13th.
