GAME ONE: Heidelberg 8-11-1 Marietta 2-7-4
Heidelberg scored two unearned runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead. Senior catcher Kaitlin Keys added to the Heidelberg lead, homering on the first pitch of the second inning.
The Berg tacked on another run in the third before running into trouble. Marietta's Jordan Pallay crushed a two-run home run, cutting into HU's lead, 4-2.
The visitors answered with another unearned run in the fourth, before a three-run sixth distanced the Student Princes from Marietta. With two outs, Leah Bouillon and Becca Radabaugh hit back-to-back singles. Renee Lovett lined a single to left to score Bouillon, and was followed by a 2 RBI single up the middle from Shelby Miller. The sophomore's single plated both Radabaugh and Lovett, capping off the Heidelberg scoring.
With the home run being her lone blemish, Kaitlyn Moore was dominant in the circle for the Berg. The sophomore scattered seven hits while fanning 10 in seven innings or work. Moore improved to 7-4 on the season.
GAME TWO: Heidelberg 8-13-0 Marietta 6-13-1
Heidelberg manufactured a run in the top of the first. Lovett led off game two with an infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a sac bunt. The senior was brought home when Casey Moore singled up the middle for an early 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers took their only lead of the day in the bottom of the frame, when Ashley Tschundy drove a 3 RBI double to right centerfield.
Unscathed, the Student Princes battled back to even the score in the second. With runners at second and third, junior Joanna Catalano lined a single to right field, driving in Haylee Patel. Two batters later, Miller brought home Bouillon with a single up the middle.
Heidelberg took the lead for good when Kaitlyn Moore crushed a solo shot to left in the top of the third. Patel followed with a two-bagger, and later scored on a Pioneer fielding error.
The Berg scored three runs in the sixth, hitting for a home run shy of the cycle. A triple by Lovett, a single from Miller, and a double off the bat of Casey Moore all scored runs for HU.
Marietta threatened in the bottom of the sixth, responding with three runs of their own. With two runners on, Heidelberg got the Pioneers to ground out and end the inning.
Morgan Daniels (2-0) earned the victory for the Berg, striking out four through four innings of work. Freshman Vanessa Macias tossed three innings in relief. The duo forced Marietta to leave 10 runners on base.
The Student Princes return to Frann's Field on Wednesday for another OAC twinbill, welcoming Capital University. First pitches are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
