WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- In game one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, the No. 2 Heidelberg University softball team fell to No. 3 Ohio Northern University, 2-0. The Berg will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. today, awaiting the outcome of the Otterbein-Muskingum game to determine their opponent.
ONU's Jenna Hollar led off the game with an infield single, and later scored on a two-out double from Hailee Loughman.
The Polar Bears tacked on a second run in the second inning. Ohio Northern eventually loaded the bases, but Heidelberg stater Kaitlyn Moore struck out ONU 3-hitter Gabby Stewart after a nine pitch at bat.
Kaitlyn Moore led off the bottom of the seventh with a single down the left field line, bringing the tying run to the plate for the Berg. A flyout in the gap and a double play killed the HU momentum in the final frame.
Heidelberg mustered just four hits off the Polar Bears, and not Student Prince reached third base.
HU starter Kaitlyn Moore, allowed just two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking a pair. Ohio Northern's Kirsten Lightel tossed seven shutout innings, fanning seven and walking none.
