TIFFIN -- On Thursday, Heidelberg University Athletic Director Matt Palm announced changes in the leadership of the 'Berg softball team. Mari Deppe, entering her second year at Heidelberg, has been named interim head coach for the 2019-20 school year. Deppe fills the role vacated by Kelli Williams, who resigned to take a position in athletic administration.
Williams went 65-51-1 in three years at the helm, including two trips to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tournament. During her three years at Heidelberg, Williams' players received 12 All-OAC nods and 31 Academic All-OAC honors.
"We wish Kelli good luck as she pursues her career in athletic administration," said Palm. "I look forward to helping Mari continue to keep the Heidelberg softball program moving in a positive direction."
Deppe arrived at Heidelberg following a stint as a graduate assistant at the University of Indianapolis.
"I want to thank Matt Palm and Dean of Students Chris Abrams for allowing me the opportunity to step into this role at Heidelberg," said Deppe, a Lima native. "I am excited to continue to help the student-athletes in the program develop into exceptional people -- in the classroom, in the community, and on the field."
Deppe was a three-time Academic All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honoree while playing first base and catcher at Grand Valley State University.
Under Deppe's direction, the Student Princes will aim for their fifth conference tournament bid in six seasons when the campaign begins in March.
