Women's basketball returns to action with loss at Capital

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After Mother Nature forced the Heidelberg University women's basketball team to sit idle for a week, the Student Princes began the second half of OAC action with a 68-58 loss at Capital University on Wednesday.

Despite getting in to foul trouble, Kathleen Phillips scored a game-high 21 points.

Heidelberg (10-7, 3-7 OAC) jumped out to a 16-8 lead thanks to Phillips, who scored 13 of the first 16 points.

Capital (11-6, 8-3 OAC) utilized a 17-5 run and took a 33-31 lead at halftime.

The Student Princes stayed with the Crusaders for a majority of the second half. But after a 3-pointer by Cookie Geroski, Capital maintained at least a two-possession lead for the remainder of the game.

Heidelberg missed all nine 3-point attempts in the second half.

Nicole Payne finished with 9 points and Carli Patrick had seven points and six rebounds.

The Student Princes host Wilmington College on Saturday. HU will look to avenge a 29-point loss to the Quakers earlier this month. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
