NEW CONCORD, Ohio - Kathleen Phillips dropped a 33-point performance on the Fighting Muskies but it was not enough as the Heidelberg University women's basketball team falls, 75-67.
Phillips was the only Student Prince to finish in double figures in New Concord. The senior finished with 33 points, five rebounds and a game-high six steals.
Phillips' 33 points marks the fourth 30+ point game this season. Her performance in New Concord propels her into third overall in scoring at Heidelberg with 1,709 career points.
Phillips surpasses Otterbein's current women's head coach Connie Sanford and now is just 69 points shy of second all-time. Coincidentally, the Berg lady roundballers will host Sanford's Cardinals in one weeks time.
Four Muskies finished in double figures to earn them the victory. Meghan Billick led the Muskingum women with 13 points.
The Fighting Muskies and the Berg women exchanged the lead twice in the opening minutes. The Berg gained a one-point advantage halfway through the first period had but the Muskies again secured the lead and extended it to seven heading into the locker room.
The Berg stole a two point lead from the Muskies with 9:29 remaining in the game, which would be the only time they led in the second half. Muskingum quickly took back their advantage and held off the Berg to hand them their 12th Ohio Athletic Conference loss.
The Berg women will travel to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, February 19 for their final away game of the regular season. Tipoff from Berea, Ohio between the Student Princes and the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
