Second half slide stings Women's Basketball

TIFFIN – In a tale of two halves, the Heidelberg University women's basketball team lost to Baldwin Wallace University, 82-64, on a snowy night in Tiffin. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Student Princes 41-23 in the second half.

The loss dropped Heidelberg to 8-12, 6-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. BW improved to 16-4, 11-2, and remained in a three-way tie for first place. The Berg slipped into a tie for fifth.

For Heidelberg, shooting woes after halftime proved costly. In the first half, the Tricolor hit 48.4% from the floor. After halftime, HU was 29.6%.

The first half featured 11 lead changes, with neither side able to open up more than a four point lead.

Layups by Carli Patrick and Nicole Payne to start the second half gave Heidelberg a 45-41 edge. HU led 51-48 after another Patrick layup with 15:36 remaining. Over the next three minutes, the Yellow Jackets scored 10 points and held the Berg scoreless, taking a 58-51 lead.

The Student Princes tried to cut into the deficit, but the Yellow Jackets responded each time. BW hit seven 3-pointers in the half, 12 overall. Alissa Munro hit four triples for BW and seemingly sealed the game with a trey that gave BW a 13-point advantage with 3:46 left.

Patrick tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds, her 12th double-double of the season. Paige Ricketts and Marisa Liburdi led Heidelberg with 12 points. Allie Hawkins contributed 11 points in the loss.

BW's Audrey Smolik had a game-high 18 points and Munro finished with 16 points. The Yellow Jackets were 22-of-25 from the foul line.
