Women's basketball falls on the road

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Two cold spells doomed the Heidelberg University women's basketball team in a 64-49 loss at Wilmington College on Saturday. A 13-0 run over 6:39 in the first half and a 13-0 stretch over 4:58 in the second half were the difference, as Heidelberg dropped to 2-4 overall, 1-1 in the OAC.

Carli Patrick tallied her 23rd career double-double, leading Heidelberg with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilmington's first half run straddled the quarter break. It pushed the Quakers (5-2, 2-1 OAC) from a one-point lead at 12-11 to a 14-point cushion at 25-11. Heidelberg chipped away and trailed 34-24 at halftime.

The Student Princes played with a purpose to start the second half. A layup by Maggie Davault with 5:50 to play in the third cut the score to 38-34. Still ahead by four with 3:15 left in the period, the Quakers regained the momentum with the big run.

Heidelberg struggled from the floor -- shooting 17-of-54, including 2-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Mary Moyer led the hosts with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Student Princes face a tall order at home on Wednesday. HU welcomes Baldwin Wallace (5-0, 1-0 OAC) to Seiberling Gymnasium on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
