BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team had their winning streak snapped as they fell to Capital University 69-53. With the loss, HU slips to 6-8, 3-4 OAC. The Crusaders improve to 6-8, 2-5 in conference action.
An Aianna Wilson jump shot gave Heidelberg a slim 7-6 lead in the first quarter. The shot with 7:20 left in the quarter would be the final time HU would lead. Capital closed out the first quarter on a 12-3 run, giving them 23-15 lead at the end of the period.
Trailing by six with 5:20 to play before the half, a triple from Cassidy Frank pulled the Student Princes to within three points. Marisa Liburdi closed the gap to 31-30 with a jumper. The home team answered with an 8-2 run to end the half, taking a 39-32 lead into the break.
The Crusaders extended their lead to double digits, scoring six straight points to start the third quarter. Capital would control the game hold a double digit lead for the rest of the contest.
Theresa Jackson led the Heidelberg scoring with 11 points. Emily Ondo and Elli Wachtman paced the Capital offense. Ondo scored 18 points which Wachtman finished with 17 points.
Heidelberg shot 60% from the line. Prior to the game HU was shooting 75% as a team.
The Crusaders outrebounded the Tricolor 41-27. Capital did not attempt one 3-pointer in the game.
HU returns home on Saturday when they host Marietta College (8-6, 2-5). Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
