ALLIANCE, Ohio -- An injury-plagued Heidelberg University women's basketball team suffered a 97-55 loss to the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Brooke Beamer paced the Berg with 18 points, including 4 of 7 from three. Brittanie Ulmer added 16 points for the Student Princes. Sophomore Leah Bouillon chipped in a team-high seven rebounds.
Mount Union wasted no time getting on the board, holding a commanding 28-9 lead after the first quarter.
Heidelberg rallied in the second period, outscoring the hosts, 21-17. Ulmer and Beamer sank back-to-back 3-pointers to spark life back into the Student Princes. A three by freshman Megan Siesel in the final minute of the half put Heidelberg down 45-30 at the break.
The Purple Raiders controlled the tempo and held all of the momentum during the second half, increasing its lead by a sizeable amount.
Mount Union had three players finish in double figures. Jamie Sanborn scored a game-high 20 points while Rachel Tinkey had a double-double (17 points, 10 boards).
Heidelberg is back on its home court on Wednesday with a matchup against John Carroll. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
