WBB: Berg falls short at Mount

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team was unable to sustain a strong start, falling 83-64 on the road at the University of Mount Union. Three Heidelberg players reached double-figures in the loss, led by a 15-point effort from Brooke Beamer.

Heidelberg dropped to 4-5 on the year, 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Beyond Beamer, Alyssa Riley added 12 points and Brittanie Ulmer had 11 points. As a team, the Student Princes were an impressive 22-of-23 (95.7%) from the line.

A 3-pointer by Riley on HU's opening possession set the tone early on for the Student Princes. Strong shooting helped Heidelberg to pull ahead by as many as seven in the first quarter.

With Heidelberg ahead 20-16 after the first quarter, Mount charged back and took the lead on a Hannah Schaeffer layup with 6:40 to play in the half. The Purple Raiders outscored Heidelberg 25-12 in the second, building a nine-point lead at the half.

The hosts continued to apply pressure throughout the third, extending their lead to 22 after three.

Despite facing a large deficit, the 'Berg continued to fight in the fourth quarter, closing the game on a 17-4 run over the final 6:30 of the game.

Maddy Crawford finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and Aianna Wilson contributed seven boards.

Mount Union outshot Heidelberg from the floor 46.2& to 30%.

The Student Princes return to action at home on Wednesday. Ohio Northern visits Seiberling Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. tip.
