WLAX: Heidelberg falls at ONU

ADA -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team's bid for their first-ever OAC road win came up a bit short at Ohio Northern University on Wednesday. The Student Princes fell 12-7.

Heidelberg dropped to 5-6 overall, 1-3 in the OAC. ONU improved to 6-5, 3-1.

Angela Lulejian led the Student Princes with three goals while Anna Winnicki tallied two goals and an assist.

Early in the first half, Dana Dudley put Heidelberg up 1-0 with an unassisted goal. Later, Lulejian's first gave HU a 2-1 lead. Winnicki's first tied the game at three with 16:23 left inthe first.

With 11:36 remaining before intermission, Lulejian tallied her second.

Down 5-4 at half, Winnicki tied the game with a goal 25 seconds into the final period. Her goal was the first of a seesaw start to the second. Lulejian's third goal, fed by Jenna Carman, followed an ONU goal. Later, Amanda Sugrue cashed in a free position shot to tie the game at 7-7 with 24:28 to play.

The Polar Bears scored the final five goals of the game.

Defensively, Winnicki caused four turnovers while Pree Bryant and Bri Casement each tallied two. Jessica Ballow made 13 saves in the loss.

Heidelberg's next game, an OAC match-up with Wilmington, will likely be moved up from Saturday to Friday at 6 p.m. An official decision will be made shortly.
