WLAX: Sophomore season ends in loss

TIFFIN -- After going winless in their inaugural season, the Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team finished with a 6-9 record following a season-ending loss to the University of Mount Union on Saturday. Prior to the 22-2 loss, Heidelberg honored Abby Rose for her contributions to the program for the past two seasons.

Mount Union moved to 15-0, 8-0 in the OAC.

Down 16-0 at half, Heidelberg got on the board in the second period. Alex Farmer picked up a loose ball, sprinted down the right side and found Jen Kovarik in front of the crease. Kovarik buried the shot for her 21st goal of the year. It was Farmer's third assist.

Later in the half, Anna Winnicki picked up her 23rd goal of the year with a shot from the left side right before getting checked to the ground.

Jessica Ballow made 13 saves in 45 minutes of work. Mandi Phillips added two saves in the final 15 minutes. McKenzie Perry caused two turnovers on the defensive end.

At season's end, Angela Lulejian led the Student Princes with 33 goals and 37 points. Winnicki had 23 goals and a team-high nine assists for 32 points. Dana Dudley followed up her strong sophomore year with another stellar year, tallying 23 goals and seven assists. Kovarik had six assists to go along with her 21 goals.

Defensively, six Student Princes caused 10+ turnovers, including Winnicki (37), Amanda Sugrue (20), Dudley (18), Pree Bryant (15), Perry (15), and Bri Casement (10).

In goal, Jessica Ballow started all 15 games and tallied 112 saves for a save percentage of .424.
