TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team landed three student-athletes on the 2018 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Monday. Alex Farmer, Maureen Kelly and Abby Rose all became the first players in program history to receive the honor, given to juniors, seniors and graduate students who have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Farmer, a three-time all-conference goalkeeper for the women's soccer team, scored four goals and tallied three assists in her first season of lacrosse.
Kelly, also a member of the women's soccer team, started all 15 games in her first season with the women's lacrosse team. She nabbed 12 ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Rose scored nine goals and had two assists in her second season with the team. She accumulated 15 ground balls and forced seven turnovers.
"In a season of firsts, I'm excited that Alex, Maureen and Abby have become our first IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recipients," said head coach Ashley Travis, who co-coached with 2018 squad with Matt Palm. "Our team is focused on achieving success, both on the field and in the classroom ... These three have worked very hard."
After a winless first season, the 2018 team went 6-9 overall, 2-7 in the OAC.
