TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University athletic director Matt Palm has named Ashley Travis as the head coach for the women's lacrosse team. The move comes after Palm and Travis served as co-coaches for the 2018 season, during which the Student Princes went 6-9 in the program's second year of competition.
"I am very excited to be able to make this move official," said Palm, who informed the members of the team on Wednesday. "Working alongside Ashley this season, I am confident in her ability to keep this program heading in the right direction."
Travis has completed her master's degree in education at Heidelberg over the past two seasons. She served as a graduate assistant coach during the inaugural women's lacrosse season in 2017.
"I am excited for the chance to keep this program moving forward and to continue to work with such a talented group of student-athletes," said Travis, who played collegiate lacrosse at the University of New Haven. "Thank you to Matt [Palm], President Rob Huntington and Dean Chris Abrams for this opportunity."
Travis and Palm helped guide the Student Princes to a series of program firsts, including first win, first road win and first conference win. Heidelberg finished 7th in the OAC in 2018 after a winless season in 2017.
A native of LaFayette, N.Y., Travis resides in Tiffin.
