TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team fell in another frigid non-conference contest, losing to Ohio Wesleyan University, 16-9. In the losing effort, Jenna Carman set a 'Berg single game record with five assists.
Ohio Wesleyan (1-0) jumped out to a quick lead after just 2:40 played. However, less than a minute later, Angela Lulejian netted her second tally of the season on a feed from Carman to even the score.
Unfortunately, from there OWU scored the next five goals to establish firm control of the first half.
Jen Kovarik picked up her second point of the season to close the gap on the the Battling Bishops. Carman once again assisted on the goal.
After two more OWU goals, Lulejian won the draw control and sprinted straight to the net. The sophomore split the defense and dispatched her second tally of the game.
Jenn Douglas completed her hat trick and added two more first half goals to give her five of the Bishops' 11 goals at the break.
Anna Winnicki ended the half on a high receiving a cutting pass from Carman and slotting a low bouncing shot past the OWU goalie.
Out of the intermission, The Berg looked to seat sail on a comeback attempt, after Winnicki and Lulejian netted goals just two minutes apart. Kovarik and Carman provided helpers on the goals.
From there, OWU rode the momentum of three free-position goals and two unassisted strikes from Sloane Baumgartner to cap off their first win of the season.
Emmy Flottman-Mullen was able to score her first collegiate goal for the Student Princes with 13 minutes remaining, but the tally proved to be a consolation effort.
The Battling Bishops were led by a six-goal night by Baumgartner and a five-goal performance by Douglas. Eight of the OWU goals came on free position attempts.
Heidelberg will return to action with two games on Spring Break -- at Anderson on March 5 and at Concordia (Mich.) on March 8.
