AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Three members of the Heidelberg University wrestling team have been named All-Ohio Athletic Conference, as announced on Wednesday. Leading the way was senior Richard Dowdley, who was the lone first team selection, while both Justin Kihn and Nino Majoy were named to the second team.
This marks Dowdley's third-straight first team selection, as he has been a mainstay for the Student Princes over the course of his wrestling career at the Berg at 184. The Ginn Academy product has accumulated 36 wins on the season so far, including a perfect 3-0 mark in OAC action. 17 of his victories have been bonus-point wins, picking up eight pins, two tech falls, and seven major decisions, as he currently sits 9th in the country by the latest D3wrestle.com rankings. He is one of two wrestlers for Heidelberg who have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships, earning a spot after finishing in 3rd place at this past weekend's Mideast Regional.
Kihn earned his first All-OAC accolades this year, wrestling to a 4-1 record at 141 in conference action to earn 2nd team honors. He ended the season with a 20-12 overall record after finishing 2-2 at the Mideast Regional. The junior recorded four pins on the year, also winning one bout by a major decision.
Nino Majoy earned a spot on the 2nd team for the second consecutive year, going 4-1 in OAC action. The Huron High School product has been dominant at 285 for the Berg all season, currently holding a 27-6 record, ranking 10th in the nation by D3wrestle.com heading into the DIII Championships. Majoy earned a spot at nationals after placing 3rd at the Mideast Regionals last weekend, coming away with a 4-3 sudden-victory to escape and advance to nationals for the second consecutive year.
The Heidelberg Wrestling team concluded the regular season with a 2-3 record in OAC duals on the year with a 10-12 dual record overall. They finished on a strong note at the Mideast Regional, however, placing 3rd overall as a team in the first season for head coach Tony Patrizi. Both Dowdley and Majoy will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, taking place on March 13th and 14th in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
