Wrestling goes 2-1 at Gator "Boots" Duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Heidelberg University wrestling team went 2-1 in their dual meets at the Gator "Boots" Duals, hosted by Luther College in Nashville. The Student Princes opened their day with a resounding 31-9 win over Buena Vista before falling in a close 22-18 match to the hosts, No. 17 Luther. The Berg was able to finish the day on a high note, however, as they knocked off Loras 21-13 in their final dual of the day.

John Eckroth (285), Aaron Banko (165), and Dillen Decker (184) each finished the day a perfect 3-0.

Eckroth's victories came by close decisions in each. Against Buena Vista he picked up a 4-2 victory, while against both Luther and Loras, the senior won by a 3-2 decision.

Banko won each of his bouts by decision as well. He opened with a 10-4 win over his opponent for Buena Vista before finishing the day with a 4-0 win against Luther and a 9-2 decision against Loras.

Decker had the most impressive performance of any Student Prince, as he picked up a pair of pins on his way to a perfect day. After winning a 6-2 decision in his first bout, the freshman had a pin in 2:13 against Luther and 2:30 against Loras to cap off the afternoon.

The Heidelberg wrestling team will be off from competition until after the holidays when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the NWCA National Duals on January 8th.
