Cheek & Kihn 4th, Decker 6th at Wheaton

WHEATON, Illinois -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team finished 12th at the Pete Willson – Wheaton Invitational, with three wrestlers finishing on the podium.  Justin Kihn and Damon Cheek took home fourth place finishes and Dillen Decker was sixth.

125: Tyler Price went 2-2 in the tournament ans has been eliminated.  He lost his opener to Anthony Munoz of Elmhurst, 10-3.  In the consolation bracket, he beat North Central's Jeff Cook by a major decision, 17-6.  Next, he majored Ernesto Garcia of Buena Vista, 16-6.  Price fell to Baldwin Wallace's Chris Doyle, 13-5.  

133: Following a bye, Ryan Hornack picked up a 14-3 win over Chicago's Louis DiMarco before being tech falled by UW-La Crosse's Dustin Weinmann, 20-2.  Hornack's tournament run ended with a 23-14 setback to Bryce Fitzgerald from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.  

141: A bye was followed by a pair of wins for Justin Kihn.  He bat Olivet's Curtis Blackwell 11-4, then defeated Layten Binion from North Central, 7-2.  He was defeated by Elmhurst's Jimmy Nehls in the semifinals, 6-1, before beating Buena Vista's Nashid Barrow, 5-2.  Wrestling for third place, Kihn lost to UW-Stevens Point's Jared Kust, 6-4.  

149: Damon Cheek won his first round match by a score of 8-1 over Wheaton's William Byrd.  He followed that up with wins over Buena Vista's Brad Kerkhoff (5-1) and Ferrum's Paul Biggs, 9-3.  In the semifinals, he was pinned by Blake Santi of Elmhurst.  Cheek rebounded to beat UW-Platteville's Mason Bohm, 3-2, to advance to the third place match.  There, he was defeated by UW-Whitewater's Isaiah Vela, 8-4. 

157: Mark Carosella picked up a resounding tech fall victory over Sam Rathburn from the Milwaukee School of Engineering -- 17-0 in 4:13.  Messiah's Larry Cannon beat Carosella 5-2 to force him into the consolation bracket.  Carosella then lost to conference-foe Richard Burke of Baldwin Wallace, 8-5.  

165:  Aaron Banko dropped his opener to Derek Weinmann of UW-La Crosse, 7-1.  A win over Muskingum's Tanner Walker (12-2) set up a match with UW-Whitewater's Tommy Gerszewski. Gerszewski got the win, sticking Banko in 6:09.  

174:  Darren Decker fell to Garrett Chase of Baldwin Wallace, 9-3, then beat Augustana's Alex Bowers 9-6.  He picked up a win over Mason Mergener of Concordia, 11-8, setting up a matchup with John Carroll's Tom McNulty.  McNulty edged Decker, 7-4.

184:  Dillen Decker won a high-scoring affair with UW-Stevens Point's Cody Nielsen, 17-11.  A close loss to UW-Parkside's Montrail Johnson (10-8) sent Decker to the consolations, where he defeated Cristen Bublitz (Chicago), 6-1.  Decker advanced to Saturday with a 9-7 win against Wheaton's Logan Walkup. Saturday began with an 8-1 win over Baldwin Wallace's Ben Lebrun.  Decker then fell to UW-Whitewater's Nick Bonomo, 16-0.  In the fifth place match, Decker fell to UW-Platteville's Grant Wedepohl, 14-4.    

197: Gage Finegan won his first match -- 3-2 over Ethan Benoit (Augustana) -- then dropped his next two matches.  He fell 8-1 to Luke Fernandez of Elizabethtown and 8-2 to Tyler MacLellan of BW.  

285: John Eckroth lost a tight match to Ferrum's Tate Dulany, 4-3, then defaulted to Alma's Cameron Lee.
