TIFFIN – Heidelberg University senior Justin Kihn has been named this week's Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler of the week, as selected on Monday. He had a stellar performance in the final home match of his career, picking up a big victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in the 141 pound weight class as the Student Princes fell 18-15 to Mount Union last Tuesday.
After the Purple Raiders took the first two bouts of the match by decisions, the Berg was looking to get on the board, but Kihn faced a tough opponent in Jeremy Border, who was ranked 10th at 141 in the most recent NWCA DIII Individual rankings.
Aggressive from the start, Kihn was able to control the bout early, as he took a 2-0 lead to the second period after a late takedown. He held that two point lead at the end of the second period as well, allowing a pair of escapes but earning his own takedown for the 4-2 lead. In the final period, Kihn earned a late escape and gave up a point for riding time, finishing off a 5-3 victory in his final bout in Seiberling Gymnasium.
The Heidelberg wrestling team will wrap up their regular season on Tuesday, February 16th, when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for their final OAC dual of the season. That match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in Berea.
