LA CROSSE, Wisc. -- A remarkable freshman season has ended for Heidelberg University 149-pounder Dallas O'Green. O'Green went 1-2 on the first day of the NCAA Championships.

"I could not be more proud of Dallas ... he never stops working," said head coach Tony Patrizi. "He sets a standard on where we need to be as a program."

O'Green was pinned in his opening match, falling into the consolation bracket. There, he beat Griffin Schermer (Wabash), 6-1. He scored a first period takedown to go up 2-0. In the second, he started on the bottom and escaped for a third point. O'Green added a takedown in the third, gave up an escape, but gained a point for riding time.

In his next match O'Green and Christopher Muce (Centenary) traded escapes to start the second and third. With less than 10 seconds, Muce scored a takedown and eliminated O'Green.

"Dallas will be back here wrestling again on the national stage," said Patrizi.

O'Green's first season ends with a 30-7 record. He becomes only the 25th wrestler in program history to hit the 30-win plateau in a single season.
