WRS Update: Hammack 7th at Wheaton

WHEATON, Illinois -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team trekked across the Midwest to the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational, one of the major litmus tests for Division III wrestlers.  Tyler Hammack was the only Berg wrestler to place, finishing seventh at 197 pounds.

125: Did not compete.

133: Tre Bogetich went 2-2 with two major decision victories. After an opening round 4-0 loss to Ben Cauffman (Manchester), Bogetich rebounded for a resounding 11-1 win over Max Owen (Buena Vista). Next, he decimated Josh McLaughlin (Elizabethtown), 11-0. Less than a week after defeating him in OAC play, Bogetich lost to Muskingum's Slade Stiles -- ending his tournament run.

141: Slade Todd was 2-2 with a pin and a major decision win. Following an opening round bye, Todd lost to Chase Wilson (Manchester), 12-5. He rebounded to beat Brandon Hertz (Pacific), 9-0. His tournament continued with a pin of Muskingum's Sammy Southers. His day ended at the hands of Hayden Schlough (UW La Crosse).

149: Did not compete.

157: Noah Messerall was 3-2 with a pin. Messerall opened up with an 8-2 win over Isaac Roffers (UW Platteville). Following an 8-3 loss to Brad Kerkhoff (Buena Vista), Messerall pinned John Prieto (Elmhurst). He advanced via medical forfeit before losing a 7-2 decision to Steve Bonsall (Chicago).

165: Logan Broskie went 0-2.

174: Jeremiah Slagle went 0-2.

184: Patrick Brown was 2-2. Brown opened with a 5-3 win over Cash Thompson (ONU). He advanced in his next match when Victor Defrance received a disqualification. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Grant Wedepohl (UW Platteville). His run came to an end when he fell to Avery Jones (Thomas More).

197: Tyler Hammack went 3-2 with a pin. Hammack received a first-round bye before he beat Isaiah Herrera (Millikin), 13-8. In the quarterfinals, Jordan Newman (UW Whitewater) knocked him into the consolation bracket. He pinned Leo Ortiz (Elmhurst) to advance to Saturday.  Ramsey Bloy (UW Eau Claire) beat him in his first match on Saturday.  In the 7th-place match, Hammack won a barnburner, beating Rocco Hladney (Elizabethtown), 16-12.  

285: Christian Climer went 1-2. After a bye, Climer defeated Zach Sayor (Trine), 8-2. He then dropped back-to-back matches, ending his run.
