ALMA, Michigan -- A truncated roster of Student Princes represented the Heidelberg University wrestling team at the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Alma College. Among the six active 'Berg wrestlers, Austin Smith led with way with a sixth-place finish.
Jake Justice (141) rebounded from an opening loss to defeat Kaden Darbro (MSJ), 7-5. His day ended in the second round of the consolations.
At 149, Dwight Parker opened with a third-period pin of Wyatt Adams (Adrian). He lost his next two bouts.
Jacob Horsch fell in his first match at 157, before he rattled back-to-back wins -- a forfeit over Cody Snook (Wabash) and a major decision over Spencer Sillman (Adrian), 11-0.
Micah Mydloski dropped both of his matches at 157.
At 197, Smith began with a pin of Trevor Snipes (Wabash) in 2:22. After dropping to the consolations, he majored Alex Dague (Wabash) 15-1 and beat Chase Gibson (Trine) 8-6. Smith fell in the consolation semifinals before dropping the fifth-place match.
Blake Jerome opened with a pin of Brandon O'Dell (Adrian) at 285. He followed up a loss with a medical forfeit and a 2-1 over Zach Saylor (Trine). He fell in the fourth round of the consolations.
The full squad will spend the next two weeks gearing up for the Mideast Regionals, hosted by Wabash on Feb. 22.
