DEFIANCE – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team fell to Defiance College on Sunday, August 31 by a score of 3-1. The Student Princes out-shot the home Yellow Jackets 20-12 but were unable net enough of those shots to mount a comeback.
Defiance took an early lead, scoring in the fifth minute on a breakaway goal, but Heidelberg answered and was able to knot up the game at 1 when Kristen Keenan scored her first goal of the season in the 16th minute.
The Yellow Jackets added one more goal before halftime and one more early in the second half, holding off the Heidelberg attack for the rest of the match.
Christina Neal led the Student Prince offense with six shots and two on goal, while Keenan registered four shots and three on goal.
Kenzie Lundqvist picked up two saves in goal for Heidelberg.
The loss dropped Heidelberg's record to 0-2 on the season while Defiance improved to 1-1. The 'Berg will be back in action again this Friday, September 5, when they take on Olivet College in their first home match of the 2014 season. That match is slated to begin at 7:00 pm at Mayer Field in Tiffin.
