TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team dropped an OAC match against Capital University 2-1 Wednesday afternoon. Two second half goals by the Crusaders proved to be the difference maker. HU drops to 6-9-3 (1-6-1 OAC) while Capital improves to 9-6-1 (6-1-1).
Denise Bowes got the Berg on the board first with a goal in the 23rd minute. Bowes capitalized off a misplayed ball by the Crusader defense at the top of the box and rifled it past Capital goalkeeper Hannah Klotzsche. The strike was Bowes' second goal of the season.
The Crusaders evened the score in the 61st minute. Jordan Fike crossed a ball from the right side to Becca Cartmill. Cartmill tapped the ball past HU goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer for her seventh goal of the season.
Cartmill struck again for the game-winner in the 73rd minute., capitalizing on a breakaway down the left side. Cartmill knocked a shot off the far post and into the net to give the Crusaders a 2-1 edge.
Farmer made 12 saves in the match. Capital's Klotzsche recorded three saves.
The Crusaders outshot the Tricolor 28-6.
Heidelberg hosts Wilmington on Saturday at Hidden Valley. The 1 p.m. match will be Senior Day for the HU seniors.
