CINCINNATI -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team slipped to 4-3 overall after a 2-1 loss at Mount St. Joseph on Sunday. MSJ controlled play a majority of the game and outshot The Berg 24-8. The Lions improved to 7-1.
Danielle Rathfon put the Student Princes on the board first with a goal in the 12th minute. With the goal, the HU junior has amassed 30 career points.
Heidelberg held on to the 1-0 cushion at halftime despite being outshot 14-2.
MSJ scored early in the second half. Kaylan Gruber tallied her first goal of the game in the 49th minute.
As the Student Princes tried desperately to hang on, Gruber netted the game-winner with 1:35 left in regulation.
HU goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer made 11 saves in the loss.
Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday. They will host Oberlin (6-0) at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
