TIFFIN -- Highlighted by a stellar performance in goal from Alexandra Farmer, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Oberlin College.
The tie moves the Berg to 4-3-1 on the season. Heidelberg handed Oberlin its first non-victory, as the Yeowomen move to 6-0-1.
Neither team could take advantage of opportunities in the first half. OC had a wide-open look, but Farmer made a spectacular diving save to her right and hauled in the rebound.
With 26 minutes remaining in regulation, the Yeowomen were sure to take the lead on a corner kick. Farmer came out to punch the ball away, but the ball went right to an OC forward. The player headed the ball into what appeared to be an open net. Amanda Kilway found herself in perfect positioning and headed the ball away, keeping the score tied.
Neither team was able to capitalize on chances in the overtime periods.
Farmer was brilliant in goal for Heidelberg. The junior made 10 saves picking up the clean sheet. Oberlin's Jordyn Morris made four saves in the match.
"It was good to see our girls come out and work hard today against a tough team," said head coach Nick Spell. "We're glad to walk away against a good team that's undefeated with a clean sheet."
Heidelberg returns to its home pitch Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader with the men's team. The women will play Thiel College at 1 p.m. followed by the men's match at 3:30 p.m.
