TIFFIN -- Scoring early and often was the key as the Heidelberg University women's soccer team defeated Thiel College, 6-0. Sophomore Erica Campbell scored a hat trick in the win, the first since teammate Danielle Rathfon accomplished the feat in 2015.
With one non-conference game remaining, the Student Princes improve to 5-3-1. The Tomcats drop to 3-5.
Campbell scored twice in the 18th minute, giving the Berg a 2-0 advantage. The first goal came off a through ball from Maddie Kuhn. The second, Amanda Kilway found Campbell at the top of the box -- the assist was Kilway's fourth of the season.
Campbell completed the hat trick early in the second half. Kilway found Campbell once again and the sophomore chipped it over the Thiel keeper's head.
"It's always good to get a great team win at home," said head coach Nick Spell. "We need to keep our focus and prepare for Bluffton."
Campbell now has seven goals on the season and Kilway has five assists. Alexandra Farmer made two saves in the first half before giving way to Bri Casement in the goal. Casement recorded one save in the win.
The Berg hosts Bluffton University on Tuesday to cap off its non-conference slate. Kickoff at Hidden Valley is scheduled for 4 p.m.
