TIFFIN -- Coach Nick Spell, back for his 13th year at the helm of Heidelberg women's soccer, will hope to contend for a place in the OAC playoffs in 2018 with a host of new faces joining a strong core of returning players.
Returning to lead the offense for the Berg is junior Erica Campbell who tallied a team-high 12 goals as a sophomore. Also looking to contribute on the scoresheet will be senior Danielle Rathfon, who netted six goals and two assists last campaign. Senior Amanda Kilway will hope to facilitate the scoring for the Student Princes in 2018 after dishing out six assists in 2017.
Defensively, the Berg will be lead by senior goalkeeper, Alexandra Farmer who compiled 118 saves and five shutouts enroute to a second team All-OAC selection last season. Farmer will hope to add to her 15 career shutouts and 1.35 GAA this season. Also helping the backline this season will be senior Maddy Hines and juniors McKenzie Perry and Kate Mundy who each started at least 18 of 19 games in 2017.
THE SCHEDULE: The 19-match season opens with a non-conference matchup at Transylvania before welcoming Wooster to Tiffin on Sept. 2. The women kickoff OAC competition on the road at Wilmington on Sept. 29. After a slate of OAC matchups, the Student Princes will conclude their season at home against Muskingum on Oct. 27.
In all, the Student Princes will play eight matches at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
ROSTER BREAKDOWN: Spell will kick off the season with 37 players on the roster. By position -- three goalkeepers, 13 defenders, nine midfielders, and 12 forwards. By class -- five seniors, six juniors, seven sophomores, and 19 freshmen. By country/hometown -- USA: Ohio (30), Michigan (3), Pennsylvania (2), Indiana (1), Louisiana (1).
