WSOC: Student Princes fall at home

TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University women's soccer team dropped a close contest at home to Olivet College Tuesday night, 3-1. 

With the loss, the Student Princes fall to 3-2 on the year while the Comets improves to 3-1-1.

Olivet took the lead in the 22nd minute when Emma Essen found Chelsie Smith at the top of the penalty area for the finish. They doubled their lead in the 59th minute when Essen took a long run down the right side of the field before slipping the ball past Berg goalkeeper, Alexandra Farmer.

Heidelberg would get on the board in the 69th minute when freshman Amanda Nething took a strike from 20 yards out that bounced through the legs of the Comets keeper, Samantha Gifford. The goal marks Nething's first collegiate tally.

Olivet would cap off the game in the 88th minute when Abby Radcliffe chipped Farmer from 25 yards out to finish off a late counterattack.

Farmer stopped four Olivet shots on the night. She now has 21 saves on the year.

The Student Princes look to bounce back when they host Alma College on Friday and Trine University on Saturday at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. Both matches will kickoff at 4 p.m.
