WSOC: Scoreless tie at Bluffton

BLUFFTON -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team had its chances, including two great opportunities in the final minute of the second overtime, but were unable find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw at Bluffton University on Tuesday. In the draw, 'Berg goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer picked up her third clean sheet of the season.

Heidelberg moved to 5-4-1 on the season, with conference action commencing on Saturday. Bluffton's record is now 1-6-1.

With a steady wind prevalent throughout the duration, but teams were gassed in the overtime periods. As time ticked away, Erica Campbell ran on to a ball in the penalty area with BU keeper Sienna Sullivan charging hard. Campbell got to the ball first, but Sullivan deflected the ball away, dropping to her right.

On the ensuing corner kick, Sophia Jackson played the ball into the box, but Amanda Nething's header sailed over the crossbar.

Heidelberg controlled much of the action and outshot the Beavers, 33-15. Campbell levied a game-high seven shots toward the net, with five being on goal.  Amanda Kilway had six shots.

Farmer made eight saves on the afternoon.

Heidelberg travels to Wilmington on Saturday for the start of OAC action. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
