TIFFIN, Ohio - The Heidelberg University women's tennis team dropped Baldwin Wallace University, 6-3, to gain their first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the 2013-14 season.
The Student Princes led off of the nearly 5 hour long contest with two doubles victories in the first and second doubles matches. The duo of Sofey Fugate and Katie Strahan downed their Baldwin Wallace counterparts, 8-3, before Deidre Potter and Nicole Millar scored an 8-2 win.
In the number one singles match, Fugate swung her way to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, triumph. Strahan followed suit with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), victory in the second singles matchup.
Millar, who occupied the four spot for the Berg ladies, dropped her match, 5-7, 6-7 (6-8), while Melissa Lovati dropped the sixth singles match, 3-6, 4-6.
It was the combo of Potter and Potts who put the match away for the Berg. The senior-junior duo finished their respective matches nearly simultaneously to earn that Student Princes their first win over BW in over a decade.
Potter swung her way to a 6-2, 7-5, victory in the third singles match while Potts took down her Yellow Jacket opponent in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.
The Berg ladies will travel to Alliance, Ohio and the campus of Mount Union to continue their 2013-14 schedule. The Student Princes will take on the Purple Raiders on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m.
