MASON, Ohio – The Heidelberg University men's and women's tennis teams defeated Marietta College in neutral site OAC matches on Saturday. The men's team swept the Pioneers, 9-0, and the women's team won, 7-2.
For the men (7-6, 2-3 OAC) Zach Schwenning and Matt McDivitt won at first doubles, 8-5. Schwenning won at first singles, 7-6 (7-4) 7-5. McDivitt won his match, 6-2 6-0.
At second doubles, Dorion Kempf and Tyler Flickinger upended their counterparts, 8-4. Kempf was victorious at second singles, 7-6 (7-0) 2-6 6-3. Flickinger dominated fourth singles, 6-1 6-0.
At third doubles, Dan Driscoll and Benjamin Moore combined to defeat MC, 8-2. At third singles, Moore won his match, 6-1 6-4. Driscoll was triumphant at sixth singles, 7-5 6-0.
The women (7-7, 4-2 OAC) swept doubles play, highlighted by Sofey Fugate and Katie Strahan's 8-1 win at firsts. Deidre Potter and Nicole Miller won at seconds, 8-6. Sara Potts and Rachael Brushaber won by injury default.
Fugate won at first singles, 6-0 6-0, and Strahan won at twos, 6-1 6-1.
Potter was a winner at the threes, 6-4 6-4.
At fours, Millar lost a close match, 7-5 (7-6) 6-4. Potts picked up a win at fives, 6-3 6-3.
Melissa Lovati lost a marathon match at sixes, 6-1 6-7 (0-7), 1-0 (10-8).
Both teams will stay in Mason for a match on Sunday. The men face Baldwin Wallace and the women take on Muskingum.
