Austintown, Ohio – Heidelberg University women's tennis player Sofey Fugate earned Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
The Cincinnati native finished 3-0 in singles action over the past week as the Student Princes took down Capital, Marietta and Muskingum. Fugate earned a, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1, victory in the Berg's 8-1 triumph over the Capital Crusaders in midweek action.
Against the Pioneers on Saturday in Mason, Ohio, Fugate claimed a decisive, 6-0, 6-0, win. On Sunday, the Berg number one picked up her third singles victory of the week, 6-1, 6-0, in a dominant 9-0 victory over Muskingum.
In doubles action, Fugate and 'Berg number two, Katie Strahan, were flawless. The duo handed their counterparts, 8-3, 8-1, 8-2, defeats respectively.
In her sophomore campaign, Fugate is currently 7-7 in singles competition and 4-2 against conference opponents. The combo of Fugate and Strahan hold a doubles record of 5-5 and are a stellar 4-1 against their OAC counterparts.
Fugate and the rest of the Heidelberg women's tennis team will return to the court on Wednesday, April 16, when they travel to John Carroll University. Midweek OAC action from University Heights is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
