Women's Tennis falls in OAC quarterfinals

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Heidelberg University women's tennis team saw their season come to a close on Tuesday as they fell in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament at Otterbein. The Student Princes fell 5-0 to the Cardinals in a match that began outdoors, but was forced inside due to weather to finish doubles and singles play.

Heidelberg ends their campaign with a 6-10 record while Otterbein improves to 17-3 and will advance to the OAC tournament semifinals.

Following the three doubles matches, Otterbein held a 3-0 lead, needing just two wins in singles play to clinch the match. The first doubles match ended with an 8-1 score while second and third doubles were each taken by Otterbein 8-2.

The Cardinals clinched the match with wins at second and fourth singles. In two unfinished matches, Sofey Fugate dropped her first set 6-2, but led the second set 4-2 when the match was clinched while at third singles, Markilynn Hogle was locked into a close 5-4 first set which she trailed when the match ended.

For the year, Hogle led Heidelberg with a 10-5 record at third singles while Fugate ended her career with an 8-7 season at first singles.

In doubles play, Fugate and Nicole Millar ended the year with a 9-7 record at first doubles.
