MARIETTA -- Both Heidelberg University tennis teams were in action on the road against conference foe, Marietta College on Saturday afternoon.
After the men's match was moved to Marietta due to cold temperatures in Tiffin, the men fell to the Pioneers by a final of 6-3.
Ryan Newman battled at third singles for the Berg. In the first set, Newman won 6-4, but injured his hand and was set back for the second set in which he fell 4-6. In the third set super tiebreaker, Newman battled to take the match 10-8.
At fourth singles, Porus Shroff made easy work of Will Watson winning both sets 6-1.
The Student Princes took their third point of the day with a 9-7 win at second doubles. The team of Kyle Alexander and Newman defeated Eric DeLong and Mike Zhang of the Pioneers.
On the women's side, Heidelberg was also defeated 6-3. Esmerelda Salazar was the bright spot on the day picking up points at both singles and doubles.
Salazar along with partner, Emmy Flottman-Mullen knocked off Latrice Nelson and Erin Warvell in first doubles 8-6.
At second singles, Salazar defeated Warvell 6-2, 6-0 to take the match. In a tough battle at first singles, Jillian Goulet defeated Latrice Nelson 6-4, 6-4 to take the narrow match.
The women will host non-conference opponent Ursuline College on Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m. The men remain idle until both squads travel to Spring Arbor University on Saturday March 30 for a 3:30 p.m first serve.
