Women 5th, men 9th at OAC Championships

BEREA, Ohio – The Heidelberg University track teams took part in the OAC Championships, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on Friday and Saturday. The women's team finished fifth overall and the men finished ninth.

Following the meet, Sophie Goobic was named female distance runner of the year.

Women 5000 Meter Run
Goobic and Dani Blum finished 1-2 in the 5000m. Goobic, a senior, finished in 18:15.76s. Blum, a freshman, came in with a time of 18.22.26.

Women 3000 Meter Steeplechase
Goobic dominated the field in the 3000m steeplechase. With a time of 10:32.76s, she finished nearly 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.  Goobic's time set a new OAC record. 

Women 400 Meter Hurdles
After finishing ninth in the 100m hurdles, Catarina Orr finished the 400m hurdles in second place with a time of 1:06.41s.

Women 100 Meter Dash
Bethany Beaver clocked a time of 12.51s, finishing fourth.

Women 4x400 Meter Relay
The relay team – Nichole Johnson, Taylor Dillon, Orr and Hayley Cochran – raced to a sixth place finish. The quartet clocked a time of 4:14.34s.

Women 4x800 Meter Relay
Goobic, Dani Blum and Cochran were joined by Allie Dresser in the 4x800m relay. Finishing in 9:46.94s, the team finished fifth.

Women High Jump
On her third attempt, Kristen Toth cleared the bar at 1.57m. With tiebreakers, Toth finished fifth.

Women Shot Put
Haasz's second attempt, 11.90m, was her best effort, good for fourth place.

Women Discus Throw
Ally Blum, sister of Dani, finished as the runner-up in the discus. Her final throw was her best, measuring 41.00m.

Women Javelin Throw
Haasz returned to the podium in the javelin with a third place finish. Her first throw of 35.41m ended up as her best mark. Sam Auchmuty finished eighth with a throw of 29.85m.

Men 3000 Meter Steeplechase
David Kindall finished second in the steeplechase. With a time of 9:40.54s, Kindall was a mere four seconds off the lead.

Men 4x800 Meter Relay
Kindall, De Churchya, Avery Gatchell and Jesse Rudolph teamed up for a sixth place finish in the 4.800m relay. The group clocked a time of 8:10.95.

Men Hammer Throw
Falcone's best finish of the day came in the hammer throw. Despite fouling on five attempts, his throw of 46.12m was fifth.

Men Shot Put
Falcone finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 13.87m.

Men Discus Throw
In the discus, Falcone's throw of 42.08m was good for sixth place.

Over the next few weeks, the teams will continue to try to qualify for the NCAA Championships, held at Ohio Wesleyan at the end of May.
