TIFFIN – Two student-athletes will represent the Heidelberg University track and field team next weekend at the NCAA National Indoor Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Madison Haasz will compete in the women's weight throw in Winston-Salem. Haasz, making her first appearance on the national stage, has the eighth best mark in the nation. The qualifying throw came as part of her second-place performance at the Ohio Athletic Conference championships. A junior, Haasz is just the fifth woman to qualify for the Indoor Championships in the history of the program.
Also competing in the weight throw, Gage Falcone is making his first appearance at nationals on the men's side. Falcone hit a personal record at last weekend's Polar Bear Last Chance Meet at Ohio Northern. The throw pushed the Heidelberg senior up to 12th in the nation. The top 15 throwers qualified for the championships. Falcone is the first thrower in the history of the men's program to earn a trip to nationals.
"Madison and Gage each have a phenomenal work ethic and desire for success," said first-year head coach Joe Yoder. "I think that their teammates and our recruits can look to them as wonderful examples of the direction that we are taking this program."
Hosted by Roanoke College, the national meet will be held at the JDL Fast Track on March 13-14.
