Women fifth, men sixth after first day at OACs

MARIETTA, Ohio -- Following the first day of competition at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championshipships, the Heidelberg University women's team sits fifth and the men are sixth. Four individuals and one relay have already picked up All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors.

The championships conclude on Saturday.

WOMEN'S WEIGHT THROW: Madison Haasz took second in the weight with a toss of 16.59m on her second attempt. Kim Gallavan (BW), who bested Haasz in the weight in 2015 with a dramatic last throw, re-set her own OAC record -- winning with a throw of 18.34m.

MEN'S LONG JUMP: Jerrod Lyon's first attempt was his personal record -- a 6.71m leap that captured third-place points. The All-OAC finish was the first for the Berg sophomore, .

MEN'S 3000M RUN: Sophomore Dylan Dombi took second with a time of 8:33.91. Dombi was edged out by John Carroll's Matt Andrews by a margin of less than a second.

WOMEN'S 3000M RUN: Junior Dani Blum picked up another All-OAC finish by coming in third. With a PR time of 10:27.21, she nosed out Mount Union's Mandy Mohn by 0.39s.

WOMEN'S DISTANCE MEDLEY: Hayley Cochran, Baylee Garrett, Alexandra Dutton and Rachel House re-set the school record with a time of 12:41.76 -- good for a third place, All-OAC finish.

MEN'S DISTANCE MEDLEY: The quartet of Eric Peterson, Tim Faiken, Dylan Dombi and Avery Gatchell took home fourth in the DMR. They clocked a time of 10:25.44.

QUALIFYING FOR SATURDAY'S FINALS:

Men's 400M Dash: Jerrod Lyon, 51.91s - 9th

Men's 500M Dash: Avery Gatchell, 1:08.31 - 5th; Kenny Beucler, 1:08.64 - 7th

Women's 200M Dash: Taylor Dillon, 26.81 - 9th

Women's 400M Dash: Taylor Dillon, 1:01.62 - 7th; Michaela Slone, 1:02.43 - 8th

Women's 500M Dash: Baylee Garrett, 1:21.63 - 5th

Head coach Joe Yoder on his team's performance -- "We had some good performances today and a lot of PRs.  Tomorrow is the last day of the regular season and we will be laying it all on the track."

UP NEXT: The remainder of the OAC Indoor Championships start at 10 a.m. on Saturday. A total of 19 events will be determined for the men and women.
