T&F: 'Berg second at AJ Cody Invitational

ADA, Ohio -- Both Heidelberg University track and field teams were in action over Easter break as they competed at the AJ Cody Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University. The men and women each placed second among the four team field.

The hosts, Ohio Northern won both genders, while Manchester and Bluffton rounded out the team placements.

Many Student Princes scored points on both sides in the team's final tune-up before the OAC Championships take place on April 27th at Otterbein University. Below is a highlight of the event's top finishers.

Women's 100m Dash: Arinn Hayes won the race with a time of 12.47 seconds.

Women's 200m Dash: Allison Schwarzbek (27.31) took second, Tomea Abbitt (28.59) finished fourth and Kirsten Kochel (31.42) rounded out the heat in fifth.

Women's 400m Dash: Jada Thomas finished third with a time of 1:03.70.

Women's 1500m Run: Alexandra Chakov was second in 5:18.65, while Quinnlyn Conley was third in 5:35.46.

Women's 100m Hurdles: Schwarzbek was second in 16.19 seconds.

Women's 4x100m Relay: The team of Schwarzbek, Hayes, Thomas and Kelsey Grove ran uncontested and clocked a time of 51.70 seconds.

Women's Long Jump: Thomas won the event with a leap of 4.51m. Ayanna Hayes was third, jumping 4.47m.

Women's Shot Put: Haley Wulff was second, throwing 10.52m.

Women's Discus: Wulff repeated a second place finish, this time tossing 30.13m.

Women's Hammer Throw: Alexia Page-Boyd was third with a heave of 39.75m. Kelsey Jakubcin was close behind in fourth, throwing 39.39m.

Men's 100m Dash: The 'Berg swept the top three. Kenny Beucler (11.27) was first, Volaskis Walkins (11.28) was second, and Noah Paris (11.40) was third.

Men's 200m Dash: Walkins (23.36) won the event, while Branden Short, Sam Steffen, Paris, and Dimitri Penick went 2-3-4-6.

Men's 400m Dash: Steffen took third with a time of 57.04.

Men's 5000m Run: Tyler Hudson was first with a time of 16:33.10, while Dylan Wiechart, Tim Jasper, and Nicholas O'Bryant were 3-4-5.

Men's 4x400m Relay: the quartet of Hunter Greenman, Justin Mourguet, Wiechart, and Jasper was third in 3:56.16.

Men's High Jump: Wes Fritz was second overall with a jump of 1.93m. Graduate assistant coach Charles Astin won the event jumping unattached. He cleared the 1.98m mark.

Men's Long Jump: Marques Johnson was the lone competitor leaping 5.31m.

Men's Shot Put: Verondtae Wilkinson was second with a toss of 12.79m.
