BEREA - The Heidelberg University volleyball team ran their winning streak to six on Tuesday, October 7, knocking off OAC foe Baldwin Wallace (13-9, 1-1 OAC) in straight sets. The Student Princes jumped on the Yellow Jackets early, winning the first set 25-16 before coming from behind in the second and pulling away in the third for the victory.
In the first set, Heidelberg got out to a quick 6-2 lead and didn't look back. Despite the first set being their largest margin of victory, it was the lowest hitting percentage of any set for the 'Berg at .229.
The second set was much more of a back and forth battle with Baldwin Wallace getting a bit of traction and running out to an 18-14 advantage. The Student Princes would then score 9 of the next 10 points to pull ahead and take the set.
The third and final set looked much more like the first, as Heidelberg was able to get ahead early, and then play back and forth the rest of the set to bring home the victory.
Senior Stephanie Romie posted a pretty solid all-around performance in the match, recording seven kills with a .385 hitting percentage, 31 assists and 13 digs. Sarah Parker led the attack with 13 kills while Mariah Sullivan picked up two aces. Jubilee Haase paced the Student Prince defense with 18 digs.
Following the win, Heidelberg improved to 13-10 overall, including a 2-1 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Their next match will also take place on the road when they travel to Muskingum on Saturday, October 11. That OAC contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
