BEREA, Ohio -- Powered by a season-high 25 kills by two-time All-American Sarah Parker, the Heidelberg University volleyball team beat Baldwin Wallace on the road, 3-1. The Student Princes dropped the first set in extra points, then rallied to win three straight -- 25-27, 26-24, 25-22, 25-20.
Heidelberg improved to 17-8 overall, 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallce slipped to 21-4, 3-3 in the conference.
Parker's 25 kills ties a career high, a feat she has accomplished twice before. The senior made just one attack error and finished with a hitting percentage of .429.
Karlie DiRuzza notched 63 assists and was part of a team-high three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets staved off a set point at 25-24 and won the first set with three straight points -- two on kills by Alicia Lortcher.
In the second set, BW similarly stayed alive on a set point at 24-23 with a kill. This time, though, Heidelberg responded by taking the next two points.
The third set belonged to the hosts in the early going. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Yellow Jackets held on to the lead until an ace by Raimondo tied the set at 11. Heidelberg built a lead at 15-14, then never allowed BW to string together more than one point en route to the win.
It was Heidelberg's turn to race out of the gate in the fourth set, as the Tricolor built a three-point lead. BW battled back into the set, but never managed to take a lead. Scott closed the match with a kill.
The Student Princes attacked at a .267 clip as a team.
Heidelberg returns to action this weekend at Marietta on Saturday. The match along the banks of the Ohio River is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
