VB advances to OAC Semis

TIFFIN -- Led by Mariah Sullivan's career-high 19 kills, Heidelberg University volleyball team defeated Muskingum 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.The Student Princes took the match 17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-23.

Muskingum's season comes to an end at 15-14. The Berg improves to 22-8.


The Muskies jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first set and never looked back. The Tricolor attacked at a .065 clip in the opening set.

In the second set, the Berg went on a 7-2 run to distance themselves from the Muskies.

Trailing 21-18 in the third set, Heidelberg scored seven straight points to take the set 25-21. Sarah Parker tallied four kills in the seven point run.

HU clung to a 23-20 lead in the set four. Muskingum clawed their way back to tie the score at 23. Back to back kills from Janessa Scott and Laura Schrag capped off the victory for Heidelberg.


Sullivan attacked at a blistering .375 clip in the match. Parker chipped in with 18 kills.

Senior setter Karlie DiRuzza had 51 assists. Rachel Raimondo tallied an impressive 22 digs on the evening.


Head coach Jason Miller on the match: "Muskingum came to play ... It's the OAC Tournament, everyone's going to come out fighting."

Miller on his team's fight: "We certainly had some kids step up and do what we needed to get a win ... At this pond in the season it's win and move on."


Heidelberg hosts the No. 3 seeded University of Mount Union on Thursday for the semifinals. Game time in Tiffin is scheduled for 7 p.m.
