NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following the 2014 cross country season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named both the Heidelberg men's and women's cross country squads as All-Academic teams. Along with the team awards, Hayley Cochran and Rachel House were recognized as individual All-Academic by the USTFCCCA.
To be named an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA, the program must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher and have competed in at least five meets, having at least five runners representing the school at each meet. For the individual awards, runners must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 as well as having finished in the top 25% of competitors at regionals.
House had a superb freshman campaign for the Student Princes, finishing off the season as the first freshman in school history to qualify for nationals as an individual. She earned 2nd-team All-OAC honors with a 11th-place finish, qualifying for nationals with a season-best time of 22:17.6 at regionals, finishing in 14th place and being named 2nd team All-Region. At nationals, she finished in 154th place out of the field of 275 competitors. House was also named All-Ohio freshman of the year as a result of her 2014 season.
Cochran also had a strong year for the Berg, earning 2nd-team All-OAC honors in her sophomore season. Her time of 25:20.77 was good enough for 16th place at the conference meet. She ended her season with a 60th place finish at the regional meet with a time of 23:10.9.
On the men's side, they finished the season with a 5th-place finish at the OAC championships while finishing in 18th out of 37 teams at the regionals. The women ended the season with a 4th-place OAC finish while placing 10th out of 35 schools at the regionals, having two individual qualifiers (House and Dani Blum) for the NCAA Division III Championships.
