WILMINGTON – The Heidelberg University cross country teams competed at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday, hosted by Wilmington College. The men finished in third place as a team out of 36 teams while the women finished 6th out of 37 teams.
Hayley Cochran led the women with a 9th place finish overall out of 343 competitors in the five-kilometer race. Her time of 19:03.8 was the 3rd-fastest of Division III runners in competition. Kristen Fett was the second Student Prince to cross the finish line, coming in 46th place in a time of 19:55.0. Amanda Elkins (67th place, 20:17.6) and Jessica Sucheck (68th place, 20:18.3) finished the race close together while Miranda Shaffer (76th place, 20:27.5) rounded out the top five for the Berg.
For the men, sophomore Dylan Dombi had a solid race and finished in 6th place overall in a time of 25:27.1 for the eight-kilometer race. Isaac Kuntz was the second finisher for Heidelberg, coming in 28th place (26:18.6). Matt Tussing finished in 45th place (26:53.4) while senior Zach Flint came in 47th (26:54.2). Nick Jones (74th place, 27:29.0) was the fifth Student Prince to finish.
The Heidelberg cross country teams will have the next week off from competition as they prepare for the OAC Championships, which will be hosted by Baldwin Wallace University on October 31st.
